Sevenoaks Suns hang on at Hatters to write more history
Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters 60 (16, 27, 41) (Naylor 28, Gandy 16, Winborne 6)
Sevenoaks Suns 74 (27, 45, 62) (Pedersen 20, Nikitinaite 17, Busch 15)
Sevenoaks Suns just love making history in Yorkshire after they completed a first ever WBBL Championship success against Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters with a 60-74 road win.
The victory came just seven days after they wrote a historical chapter on the very same court when they beat Hatters in the WBBL Trophy Semi-Finals to punch a ticket to their first showpiece WBBL Final.
And, there was more than a little touch of déjà vu as another strong opening paved the way for the win, with Suns storming into a 27-16 lead as once again the home defence leaked too many early points.
Suns were led by an excellent 20 points from Danish forward Anne Pedersen and she was one of four players in double digits which as essential in holding off a rescue bid by Hatters at the start of the fourth period.
They outscored their guests 13-3 and had Great Britain winger Helena Naylor eventually record a game-high 28 points, but Suns regained their composure to ease to another eye-catching triumph.
