2020-21 WBBL fixtures and dates confirmed

The WBBL is today delighted to confirm the fixtures and dates for the seventh season of the Women’s British Basketball League.

The 2020-21 season will commence on 07 November with the WBBL Cup group stages before breaking for the GB Women’s International window.

Once the Semi-Finals of the Cup have taken place in early December, the WBBL Championship will tip on 12 December, with two weeks of action before breaking for Christmas and New Years.

The first final of the season, the WBBL Cup Final, will take place in January at a date/venue to be confirmed, with the WBBL Trophy First Round commencing the week after, and a date for the Final to also be announced.

The Championship season will end on the weekend of 24/25 April 2021 with the Play-Offs commencing immediately before the grand season finale at a date/venue to be announced.

WBBL Championship

Each team playing each other once home and away.

WBBL Cup

Consisting of nine WBBL teams who are able to accommodate games immediately, split into two groups geographically. The groups are:

South – Oaklands Wolves, Essex Rebels, BA London Lions, Sevenoaks Suns, Cardiff Met Archers
North – Newcastle Eagles, Manchester Met Mystics, Nottingham Wildcats, Leicester Riders

Each team plays each other team in their group home or away.

The top two in each group progress through into the Semi-Finals with ties assigned as follows:

Group A winner v Group B runner-up
Group B winner v Group A runner-up

Semi-Finals (Single Leg) – 05/06 December 2020
Final (Single Leg) – TBA

WBBL Trophy

A straight knockout tournament consisting of all 11 WBBL clubs.

The teams who made either the Cup or Trophy Semi-Finals last season, will receive a bye into the Trophy Quarter Finals for the 2020-21 Cup. They are:

Durham Palatinates
Sevenoaks Suns
Newcastle Eagles
Leicester Riders
Nottingham Wildcats

The remaining six teams will make up the First Round of games, with ties being assigned by localisation and home teams being assigned by a draw between both sides. The ties are as follows:

Caledonia v Manchester
Cardiff v Oaklands
Barking v Essex

Quarter Finals
Newcastle v Caledonia/Manchester
Nottingham v Durham
Leicester v Cardiff/Oaklands
Sevenoaks v Barking/Essex

WBBL Play-Offs

Top eight in the WBBL Championship qualify with ties assigned by seeding. Single leg quarters and semi-finals with a single leg Final (Final at neutral venue).
