Wildcats are off the mark after a thrilling first win
Nottingham Wildcats 72 – 70 Oaklands Wolves (14-20, 34-36, 50-55)
Kenrick Liburd is celebrating his first win at the helm of Nottingham Wildcats as the home side came back from behind to pip Oaklands Wolves.
The hosts picked up their maiden win of the 2018-19 campaign in a super battle as the winless Wolves were squeezed out for the second week in a row.
Leading scorers – Joyner 20, Prior 18, Oses 13 (Wildcats); Schulter 24, Rustamzada 14, Harrison 12 (Wolves)
Turning point – Wildcats were trailing 60-66 midway through the last quarter but scored nine of the next 10 points and it turned the momentum in their favour.
Key stat – Wolves might be kicking themselves for missing 9 free-throws in a tight game and might have hoped to have punished Nottingham more for their 24 turnovers.
Game hero – It was a debut to remember for Jasmine Joyner as the Wildcats’ newest arrival amassed an incredible double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds. Meanwhile Siobhan Prior led by example with an excellent all-action line of 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists.
