It’s a debutante-fest this week as no fewer than four players make their first appearances of the season in our starting line-up, with the fifth spot taken by the Molten WBBL Player of the Month.
Giulia Simioni (Newcastle Eagles)
The Swiss was on top form for Newcastle at Sport Central, as the north-east side swept away Oaklands Wolves. The guard was not that far away from securing a triple-double, after contributing an excellent 14 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. She also spilled the ball only once in almost 40 minutes of action.
Michelle Bradley (Nottingham Wildcats)
The rising star will enjoy some much deserved attention for her exploits after helping Wildcats to take an important road win at Archers. With some key absences, Bradley stepped up and was instrumental in the victory after shooting 63% from the floor to garner 18 points, while also adding 5 steals and 4 rebounds.
Alison Gorrell (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters)
Standard. And that standard is top drawer, with Gorrell becoming the first player to amass four starting appearances this season. That came off the back of the Molten WBBL Player of the Month for October racking up another fruitful haul of 27 points, 12 boards, 4 assists and 3 steals in the win at BA London Lions.
Janice Monakana (Sevenoaks Suns)
It’s a first starting berth of the campaign for Monakana who seems to be thriving in the wake of her summer switch from Nottingham. She was the standout player as the unbeaten leaders demolished Durham Palatinates. She corralled 15 points after going 6 of 8 from the field, while also adding 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Claire Paxton (Leicester Riders)
Our last slot is taken by former the Caledonia player who has also blossomed in the early days at her new club. Paxton aided Riders’ triumph on the road at Essex Rebels and was the pick of an impressive crop, with an excellent 7 of 9 shooting effort for 14 points as well as 9 boards in the win.
Off the bench – Kristie Velasquez (BA London Lions), Sam Roscoe (Manchester Mystics), Chelsey Shumpert (Nottingham Wildcats), Kalina Axetievas (Newcastle Eagles), Sarah Toeaina (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters), DeAngelique Waithe (Essex Rebels), Brea Elmore (Leicester Riders).
