Cardiff adds first fresh face to 2021-22 roster

Cardiff Met Archers have added a fresh new face to their roster for the 2021-22 season in 5’3” American Lauren Saiki.

The 24-year-old Californian is the Welsh club’s first new signing for the forthcoming season, having already secured returns for Issy Bunyan, Carys Roy, Kim Kheing, Laura Shananhan, Mara Marchizotti and Shannon Hatch.

Saiki, who is also pursuing a master’s degree in Digital Marketing at Cardiff Met, joins Archers having previously captain the Irvine Women’s Basketball team out of University of California for four years from 2016 to 2020.

She ranked third in assists in all the NCAA Division One in 2020 and was also named to the All-Big West First Team and the Big West All-Academic Team from 2017 to 2019.

“I am excited to finally get out there to work with the team and coaches at Cardiff,” said Saiki.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity to create an unforgettable experience, learn a new culture, and compete at a high level.”

Head Coach Stef Collins added, “We are thrilled to sign Lauren for her first season overseas.

“She’s played at a very good level in the NCAA and has a skillset and leadership qualities at the point guard position which will be important for our success this season.

“We have been in discussions for a while but due to COVID we had to delay her signing until now, so we’ve been highly anticipating her arrival and look forward to getting her settled here in Cardiff.”
