Cardiff Met Archers this afternoon confirmed their first two returnees to the club ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Both Mara Marchizotti and Shannon Hatch will be returning to the Welsh-side again.
For Marchizotti, the 2021-22 season will mark the third season in a row she has been with the club, having also had previous experience with the Argentina national team.
Last season she led her team in rebounds with 7.6 rebounds per game, whilst also averaging 11.2 points per game.
“I’m excited to get going with everyone this year,” said the 27-year-old Argentine.
“We had our ups and downs last season, with people getting injured at different times, it never felt like we had the whole team healthy at once. So, I’m looking forward to starting pre-season together and to the season ahead.”
For Hatch, the forthcoming season will be her second year with Cardiff, after averaging 11.9 points per game in her debut season, becoming the third highest scorer in the team.
“I am so happy and excited to be coming back to the Cardiff Met Archers for another season,” said Hatch.
“Although last season was very challenging with COVID restrictions and all of the injuries that we dealt with as a team, I absolutely loved my experience as an Archer and felt really privileged to play. I can hardly wait to get going again and work hard as a team to improve on what we built last year.”
Archers Head Coach Stef Collins added, “We’re excited for the return of Mara and Shannon, the pair will continue to keep us striving for success in what is anticipating being another highly competitive season with clubs going from strength to strength.
“I know Mara has only just scratched the surface of where she could be in this league, she has a great skill set and understanding of the game, her leadership will be important to consistently bring a competitive edge for the squad.
“Shannon was our teams MVP last season and is someone who will do everything she can to help the team be successful, her hard working and upbeat spirit is infectious.
“She really found her stride towards the latter stages of the season, and I look forward to her setting the tone for the team in her 2nd season with the Archers.”
