Davies returns home to suit up for the Wolves in 2020

British international Jess Davies has signed for Oaklands Wolves for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 6ft 2in Hertfordshire native returns to her home county and will look to push the Wolves on as they continue their progress in the WBBL.

Originally part of the Herts Warriors junior programme, Davies has previous experience of the WBBL with Leicester Riders during 2014/15. Over four seasons later and the forward will once again ply her trade in the league after returning from the US college system.

Davies initially signed with Lipscomb University in 2015 and spent her first two seasons in Tennessee, before transferring to Missouri Western State University for her Junior and Senior seasons. She managed 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and led her team with 16 blocks in her senior season – playing 30 minutes per game.

Davies spent the first part of the 2019/20 season finishing her degree in the US, but the player has stayed in shape and is ready to make an impact.

She stated: “I’m excited to be returning to the WBBL after four seasons away from the league. I have watched it grow and get stronger each year. It’s great to have a Hertfordshire based team in the league now and I’m particularly excited and grateful to play for my local club in the league.”

Head Coach Lee Ryan enthused: “We are thrilled to have Jess sign with us as her first team out of college. I think the chance to come back to her home after so many years away put us in the prime position to secure her signing.

“However, it’s her fit to our style and philosophy that clinched it and she will have a chance to make a real impact with our programme. Having known Jess for many years and having coached her in the national team, I am looking forward to seeing how her game has grown over in the US.

“It fits with us seamlessly, so it will just be a case of integration and enjoying the experience of getting the best out of her. She will be a big inspiration to all the Hertfordshire young Wolves who will look to emulate her success.”

You can see the Wolves open up 2020 with a home game on Saturday 4th January, tipping off at 5.45pm at Oaklands College
