Vanessa Ellis has been rewarded for a perfect start to the new season with Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters by taking the first WBBL accolade of the campaign.
She picks up the Molten WBBL Coach of the Month award after masterminding a 6-0 start – a record all the more impressive since Hatters endured some serious issues putting their roster together in the weeks leading up to the 2017-18 season.
Opening up with a commanding 92-37 victory against WBBL newcomers Durham Palatinates, Hatters made an early statement of their ambitions by then winning 80-71 at Manchester Mystics.
After beating BA London Lions 84-62, they returned from Sport Central in Newcastle with a 72-65 triumph against Team Northumbria.
With the in-form Gianna Woods and Steph Gandy both leading the way, Hatters’ red-hot form continued as they racked up another big win against Durham Palatinates, before finishing the period with arguably their most impressive result – beating Nottingham Wildcats 76-73.
Ellis just pipped Sevenoaks Suns’ head coach Len Busch to the award, with the play-caller having also enjoyed a flawless opening.
