Leicester Riders have added Christina Gaskin to the roster for the upcoming WBBL season as the team assembles for Coach Jesper Sundberg during what will be his second year in charge.
Gaskin returns from playing in Italy for Marghera Giants last season and is keen to get going with the Riders.
“I’m very excited to be joining the Riders this year, the WBBL is becoming stronger every year and Riders are always competing for a top spot within the league,” said the centre.
“I’m really happy to be back playing at home, as rewarding as playing overseas can be, in terms of challenging you and adjusting to a new cultural way of playing.
“I’m happy that I can play in a league I’m familiar with in a language I understand.”
Coach Sundburg is looking forward to the versatility that Gaskin brings to the roster and added: “She is a very mobile player, for her length at 6’2, which fits perfect in the Riders’ style of play.
“She’s a good defender, can run the floor and has good touch offensively so we look forward to integrating her to the team this season.”
The combination of basketball and education that the Riders programme offers due to the extensive relationship with Loughborough School of Business and Economics was one of the biggest pulls for Gaskin ahead of the 2019/20 season.
“I’m looking forward to pursuing my masters as it is a top business program with national recognition. So the combination of the both was perfect for me,” stressed Gaski.
“The programme was appealing to be as its one of the best in the country. With the work I do for clients in marketing, I know it will enable me to extend my services and grow my business.”
