Jessy Ward to remain a Rebel for three years

Essex Rebels have re-signed Jessy Ward for the next three years.

Jessy, despite picking up an injury, made the top five in average points last season, as well as the top three for three-points made.

Jessy played in the NCAA at the University of Tennessee at St Martin, where she averaged over 10 points per game for the Skyhawks in the Ohio Valley Conference. She then moved to the Australian league where she played for Norwood Flames, before joining the Rebels for their debut season in the WBBL.

“We saw a lot of improvement as last season progressed, but I’m looking forward to seeing what we can build on this season,” said Jessy.

“I want us to be seen as more than just a developmental programme and create some upsets along the way.”

Tom Sadler, Head of Basketball Performance at the University and Head Coach of the Essex Rebels added, “I am really happy to have secured Jessy for another 3 years at Essex Rebels. Jessy suffered some unfortunate injuries last season but has really committed during the off season and has been working hard with our Head of Strength and Conditioning, Justin Mills, to make sure she is ready.

“Jessy is one of the best scorers in this league and an exciting player to watch. She is someone who can take over a game and I think a healthy Jessy Ward is capable of being one of the best players in this league, so I’m pleased she will be returning as a Rebel this season.”
