Robyn Lewis is to return to the Cardiff Met Archers for the 2019-20 season, in what will be her sixth season in the WBBL.
Lewis, who has played in all five WBBL seasons since the league’s inception in 2014, joined Archers last season following back-to-back seasons with Caledonia Pride.
“I’m excited to return to Archers this season,” said Lewis. “We had a lot of fun last year and were competitive at times but it was definitely disappointing not to make the Play-Offs.
“I’m looking forward to trying to build on last year’s efforts with those returning and also some new additions. Hopefully we can pick up some more wins along the way.”
Lewis revealed that the general team goal for Cardiff was to make the WBBL Play-Offs.
“I think it should definitely be an aim for us,” continued Lewis. “We need to be more consistent than last year if we are to achieve that goal, as dips in performance cost us a lot last season. Individually I will just focus on contributing whatever I can to make the team better. A lot of the time, this is in defence but I would also like to improve my offensive production in terms of points and assists.
“Heading into my sixth year, I love seeing how much the league has developed. Since the WBBL started it has become increasingly competitive. This time of year is always exciting with signings being announced and teams starting to take shape.
“I really like seeing how individual teams gel and develop as the season goes on.”
Head Coach Stef Collins admitted that re-signing Lewis was one of the first things her and the Cardiff coaching staff ensured happened following the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.
“She truly fits what we need within our programme to drive us forward,” said Collins. “Robyn is a natural leader with an amazing work ethic and is a genuine kind and caring person.
“With many new faces last season, players and coaches alike, we can now build on where we left off and I’m excited to see what Robyn brings to both ends of the floor.”
