Manchester Met Mystics beat Durham Palatinates 64-58 in a close-fought encounter on Wednesday evening.

The sides couldn’t be separated early on as Manchester held a one-point lead after the first quarter. This theme continued into the second as both teams scored 16 points leaving Mystics ahead at 33-32.

After the break, Mystics kicked on as they tried to put some daylight between them and their opponents. They limited Palatinates to just 12 points in the third, which was enough to put them six ahead going into the final quarter.

Despite a spirited final quarter from Durham that saw them get within four points of their opponents, Mystics held on to win by six points.

Georgia Jones led the scoring for the hosts with a game-high 22 points. Sophia Song also had a good game as she narrowly missed out on a double-double performance with 11 points and eight rebounds. Kara Elderkin starred for Durham with 19 points and nine rebounds as her side slipped to defeat.

The win sees Mystics move level on points with Nottingham Wildcats in fifth place. Meanwhile, defeat marked Durham’s eleventh loss of the season as they remain bottom of the WBBL Championship.
