Ellie Shaxon is making a return to Essex having previously played in the Blades NBL team, which won the Basketball England National Cup in 2016 and reached the final in 2018, as well as reaching the play-off final and securing the Women’s National Basketball League Division 1 title the same year.
An Alumni from the University of Essex, Shaxon played on the BUCS team where she led the team to secure the University’s first ever premier division south title in Women’s Basketball.
She has spent the last year playing for German professional team, Krofdorf Knights and returns home to the Rebels for their second season.
“I’m really excited to be back at Essex,” stated Shaxon.
“To watch this programme go from strength to strength has been great and I’m grateful to be a part of the team this year. Tom (Sadler) and the coaching staff have worked really hard over the summer to create a professional programme and I’m excited to see what we can achieve this season.”
Coach Sadler added: “Having Ellie back at Essex is huge for us, she was probably the first person I called when I first got the job to see if we could get her back.
“She’s a leader and is someone the other players really love playing with and respect. She has history with this programme and is someone the local fan base love.
“We believe in Ellie and believe is a player who we can really build around long term,” added the play-caller.
Shaxon will take up a leadership role within the team and is certainly one to watch when she makes her debut for the Rebels in the WBBL Trophy.
