Leicester Riders will return a strong core from last season’s Trophy Final and Play-Off Final team for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
Kate Oliver, Brea Elmore, Jen Ashton and Chloe Compton will return for the new WBBL season whilst also joining Loughborough University to study and be eligible to play BUCS Premier competition next year.
Head Coach Jesper Sundberg is pleased to see the quartet back in the line-up and a strong step to better synergy between the WBBL and BUCS roster for the upcoming season with all four studying.
“I’m happy that we managed to sign back some key players from last season,” said Sundberg. “Having continuity is always a big factor for future success so we are excited to start the season with a new group.
“Building the team around our lead point guard, starting big, go to scorer and last season most improved player on the team was a good start for us.”
British guard Jen Ashton, who averaged 8.1 points and 5.3 assists per outing, is looking forward to the season and after a positive first year with the club, it is trophies that Ashton strives for.
“I think those of us who are coming back after last season are looking to work toward perfection,” Ashton explained. “We want to build off this past season to produce even better games for our fans and results to get more titles.”
Brea Elmore enters her second year as a pro out of Memphis after an impressive score season highlighted by a 14.8 points per game average in the WBBL Trophy and a season high of 26 points in the WBBL Championship as well as clutch players in multiple games through the year.
Kate Oliver returns for her third season for the club following back-to-back Trophy Final MVP honours for the team whilst improving her statistical outputs including a huge 32 point explosion in the WBBL Championship.
And Charnwood College graduate Chloe Compton completes the four players returning from last season entering her second season with the WBBL team.
