Thompson and Wurtz a new duo at Sevenoaks

Reigning league champions Sevenoaks Suns are making moves to retain their coveted WBBL title after confirming the arrival of British star Jamila Thompson and American guard Frankie Wurtz.

The athletic Thompson knows the WBBL having played at the Leicester Riders between 2016-2018, while also stepping out professionally in both Spain and the Czech Republic.

“I’ve known ‘Jam’ since she was a junior in London,” smiled Suns’ playcaller Len Busch.

“We’ve talked over the years about her playing for Suns and this year it finally worked out. I’m looking forward to coaching her and I think with her passing and energy she will thrive with us.”

Thompson added, “I am very excited to be back playing in the WBBL and I’m looking forward to having some fun this season playing for the Sevenoaks Suns – I can’t wait to see how things go.”

Meanwhile Wurtz is a graduate of the University of Wisconson Green Bay and arrives at Suns via Luxembourg where she played for Amicale Steinsel.

“I am really looking forward to Frankie in a Suns uniform,” said Coach Busch “She is talented guard who plays smart and can score in a lot of different ways.”

Wurtz added, “I am beyond excited to be a part of the Sevenoaks Suns and hope to build on the success they have already had in the WBBL.

“I am so thankful for this opportunity and look forward to meeting my new coaches and team.”

The addition of Thompson and Wurtz takes the Suns’ roster to six players at present, joining Julia Koppl, Judit Fritz, Cat Carr and Renee Busch.
