There were wins for Nottingham Wildcats, Oaklands Wolves and Durham Palatinates on Saturday as the trio all booked their place in the Quarter-Finals of the WBBL Cup.
Nottingham Wildcats eased out Caledonia Pride 76-53 to take a home victory that was founded on another strong showing by forward Jasmine Joyner. She finished the contest with 21 points and 12 rebounds – as well as a stunning 6 blocks, while Chelsey Shumpert handed out 10 assists. The defeat was tough on Stella Fouraki who poured in 27 points for the visitors.
Oaklands Wolves needed overtime to despatch BA London Lions 68-67 in a dramatic south-east derby match-up. Anneke Schluter and Lizzy Harrison both hit clutch three-pointers deep in the extra period to land the hosts a nail-biting success.
Meanwhile Durham Palatinates soared into the last eight of the competition with a one-sided 87-57 win against Essex Rebels. Dee Hayward impressed with an excellent 24 points, 8 boards, 5 assists and 4 steals as Durham celebrated victory at their new venue.
Newcastle Eagles and Cardiff Met Archers will compete for the last remaining Quarter-Finals spot on Sunday afternoon.
Sevenoaks Suns, Leicester Riders, Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters and Manchester Mystics all received byes into the last eight of this season’s WBBL Cup, courtesy of their respective top four WBBL Championship finishes during 2018-19.
