The Oaklands Wolves and Manchester Met Mystics progressed to the next round of the WBBL Trophy on Wednesday night as they picked up impressive victories over the Cardiff Met Archers and Caledonia Pride.

The Mystics dominated the Pride in the Scottish capital, whilst a huge fourth quarter performance from the Wolves saw Oaklands pick up their first win of the season in what was a tight affair.

The night’s action kicked off in Cardiff as the Archers and the Wolves looked to join the BA London Lions in the next round of the Trophy, and a hard-fought opening three periods saw only one point separating the sides going into the final ten minutes.

Oaklands flew out the gates in the final period of play, and led by Louise Rouse’s 15 points pulled away from the Met Mystics in the clutch. Cardiff fought their way back to within four points of the Oaklands lead, but the Wolves held on for that crucial first win of the season.

Manchester made the journey to Glasgow after a tough loss at the hands of Nottingham Wildcats on Saturday, and they reacted with aplomb as they blew away the Pride.

Hannah Shaw led all scorers with a dominant double-double, racking up 11 rebounds to go with her game-high 19 points. Shaw led from the front as the Mystics dominated the inside, with 54 of their 90 points coming from inside the paint.

Sian Phillips had an impressive outing for the pride with a double-double of her own, posting 17 points along with an incredible 15 rebounds, however the Mystics were out of sight as the game drew to a close as they join the Wolves in the next round of the WBBL Trophy.
